It's a Wuxia story with a female person protagonist. Information technology's overall, a rather brusque (compared to other Chinese translated novels) and fun romance novel. I'd recommend it if you're looking for something interesting pass the time~
iv stars, since I feel like it dragged on at the end. It's a Wuxia story with a female protagonist. It'south overall, a rather curt (compared to other Chinese translated novels) and fun romance novel. my main problem was the length of this novel - i had to take a break somewhere in the middle because information technology was actually, just So Much. i definitely feel like information technology'll be better off half the length simply i suppose i do southward 3.5 | okay. i enjoyed this novel a lot, honestly. i honey the fact that we have all the wuxia elements merely as well the mixture of mod solar day internet slang/culture - zhu yao is honestly such a skilful graphic symbol, it'due south so refreshing to read nigh a strong, smart, and kind female person graphic symbol. yeah but.
my primary trouble was the length of this novel - i had to take a interruption somewhere in the center because it was really, only So Much. i definitely feel similar it'll be better off one-half the length only i suppose i do see why information technology'southward so long (everything had to develop and connect). as well really distressing how some characters never reappeared afterwards a reincarnation/motility to some other globe like. yeah u accept yue ying and yu yan merely similar????? little radish and mushmush???? skilful characters i want more :( (besides the romance was kinda wack everyone saw it coming miles abroad simply it still felt weird and kinda too much in my face tbh.) lastly. this may just be me existence sensitive only similar? was at that place really the demand for zhu yao to act all shook/scandalized whenever one grapheme looks like they like another character of the same gender? and unsure if it was written similar this or if it was the translator'due south choice only damn. why did i have to read the word homosexual buddy at least twenty times in the last arc? it just feels like the writer/translator is making fun of the lgbtq community and saying that beingness gay is their but defining trait which is. ugly to say the least.
tl;dr: i actually hate when hets add lgbtq characters for the sole purpose of a humor pause.

Unfortunately the structure makes it experience incredibly repetetive and truly drags on, as every new 'My Disciple Died Nevertheless Again' is a quirky novel in a format that reminds a lot more of a tv show of several seasons than a volume. On ane hand, by the separation of "missions" through the arcs, on the other hand, by a writing style that is rather visual. With its eccentric characters, popular culture references and a heavy reliance on sense of humour over logic, it is a fun and entertaining read. For the nigh function.
Unfortunately the structure makes it feel incredibly repetetive and truly drags on, equally every new arc comes with a setback in cultivation, new setting, characters etc, at the cost of some more than grapheme development. Unfortunately, the plot relies heavily on a chief character that is goodhearted and lightheartedly violent (I guess... it'south for laughs?), but whose main aspect is the power to not change... at all. And then nosotros have a main character who is perhaps not perfect, but notwithstanding sold equally 'ideal person' in many ways, which leads to the read dragging on weven more.
Coming back to it feeling like a written television receiver shows, rather than going towards a goal, the structure of this is more round. Whenever 1 thinks there is some actual overarching plot, it just reverts back to another new "mission".
Unfortunately the catastrophe does not prepare this result with a actually clever tie upwardly of all the events in the previous Arcs, only instead relies on a pretty generic: "It's all to make the globe a better place through this chosen heroine" logic. The solution relies on a pretty creepy, most disciplinarian solution, while nearly side characters are merely dropped.
Leaving bated a lot of pretty offensive terminology in the treatment of both obesity and homosexuality, which are constantly playes for jokes (and for homosexuality being unnatural and a problem that needs solving.... great...), it is, if considered as 1 book, really a piece of low-cal entertainment.
I acknowledge that under the consitions of writing (regular updates, chapter by affiliate on a blog) of these chinese novels, it is perchance a bit unfair to rate this as I would a i volume book, but subsequently reading the works of MXTX (Mo Dao Zu Shi etc), it is clearly possible to still write a plot-heavy, cohesive novel. This is is considerably less professional.
That said it is not horrible, I assume it is really hit or miss. If you expect a novel, even if it's comedic entertainment, to have a satisfactory build up and solution, then this seems indeed rather sloppy. If you are merely reading it for distraction, focusing on humour, pop-civilization references and simple characters, I am sure this has a lot of potential. I just expected a tiny piddling fleck more plot and character delelopment in a work of this length. ...more
I enjoyed seeing what kind of new course she'd render in each time. The bige
To exist articulate, I didn't finish this whole book. In that location are 12 arcs / 395 chapters total, and I got through the first 6 arcs / 195 chapters. Maybe I will revisit this again someday, but the whole cycle of reviving and removing the issues in a new mission kinda got old. To be off-white, nosotros finally found out a niggling scrap more at the end of arc 6, and Realmspirit did hope to spill the beans subsequently Zhu Yao's next mission, but who knows.I enjoyed seeing what kind of new course she'd return in each time. The bigender form reminded me a chip of the principal character in Ranma i/2. The dragon was probably my favorite, given how she was able to subdue all demonic beasts with her presence, including the devil-inhabited rabbit god at the end. The piece of jade stone was the most interesting, since she kept on ending up with owners she didn't care for.
I did go a kick out of the primary character's internal monologue. She was quite funny and had a very blunt way of putting things. I read on mainly for her and for the romance. Speaking of which, I kept waiting for the romance to get farther forth, and later 195 chapters in, I gave upwards on Zhu Yao's completely clueless master, Yu Yan. For example, see the below interaction between them correct before I dropped, where Zhu Yao is trying to take off his clothes and slumber with him:
Yu Yan took the outer garments, turned to wait at her unknowingly, and and then approached her. His two easily brushed past the sides of her waist, forming a kabe-don posture. He gradually leaned closer… and closer…
And and then…
He put his outer garment on her.
"If you wanted this mystic robe, say and then directly."
Crackle.
Zhu Yao heard the sound of something shattering. That was her expressionless immature maiden'south heart…
She really was stupid to the indicate of piercing through the heaven, for believing that a sure someone could have been enlightened!
A certain master, however, stabbed her with another knife with a stern look.
"I placed down a special defensive formation on this mystic robe, and regular people aren't able to move information technology."
Puaaah! A steel knife stabbed correct into her center.
"Though, the size might be a picayune large for y'all."
Puaaah! She received an additional 1000 damage.
"If you sincerely like it, your primary shall help change it to your size tomorrow."
Puaaah! Her middle received long-lasting damage.
"I shall make some others for y'all while I'm at it every bit well. Mn… Y'all seem to accept grown a piddling fatter."
Puaaah! Her HP was emptied!

I feel similar I could spend some time about how absolutely WILD information technology is, flailing nigh in the wildernesses of apprentice translations. There's Due south
"My Disciple Died Yet Once again" is i of the few titles that popped upward multiple times when I started looking for recommendations for female-led xianxia novels (I really liked watching The Untamed, and really liked their female person characters, but by and large came abroad wanting more of them. Since the novel of that is going to take a while, I thought I'd try a few others.)I feel similar I could spend some fourth dimension about how absolutely WILD it is, flailing about in the wildernesses of amateur translations. In that location'south SO much weird drama, there's footnotes that go from passive aggressive (this translator just links to wikipedia, which I think is hilarious) to similar, squeeing translator inserts, or footnotes that just don't be for some ...more than obscure content... but there's conspicuously this community doing a lot of piece of work for free on really intense schedules, which is simply :O. I appreciate their work immensely.
Anyhow what I am looking for in these xianxia novels (and finding) feels like classic pulp - it's incredibly readable, the action moves forth, and (perhaps this is unlike) in that location are character relationships you want to run across develop. In My Disciple Died Yet Once more in that location's all those things and likewise a lot of humor, just frequently slapstick/cultural misunderstandings sort of thing. The best humor is when information technology's about someone being incredibly sincere and caring and going over the top. The worst is the characters that are mostly just fat jokes. However, there does appear to exist some middle in it, and I capeesh that and too the competent/accessible translation.
Also this is a serial of 12 books, not 1, and so I'm going to marking it every bit read/reread for nonetheless many books I really terminate.

Dropped at chapter 144/393. I almost dropped it at affiliate 30 at first because information technology was and then and then deadening, only then information technology picked up and was great and I had a agglomeration of belly aching laughs. And then it reset and then got tiresome again and then picked upwardly a bit, and and then information technology reset. After the fifth (?) reset I'yard merely really tired. Like, just thinking near having to go through this for some other 250 chapters makes me want to prevarication down in bed for a few days.I quite like the MC, actually. There'due south only not much else nigh the plots or other characters that actually stands out much for me. I was holding on for some romance but I realized that information technology wasn't going to happen any fourth dimension soon. Many many many other things would go in the way and the progress was like watching a huge programme loading on an sometime computer: futile and infuriating. I'll reserve my time for something more worthwhile.

It's a keen idea, but it quickly goes from being a parody to existence exactly the aforementioned sort of story it was making fun of. At present this ane is not recommended. It's a great idea, simply it apace goes from being a parody to beingness exactly the aforementioned sort of story it was making fun of. To acme it all, not just it ends in a cliffhanger, the author likewise left several plotlines hanging from older arcs.
